How Council Presidencies work
The EU institutions and their work sometimes seems abstract and far away from the daily lives of persons with disabilities. Also for the disability movement as a whole, it may seem complicated to engage in the decision-making procedures that appear to be detached from national level decisions.
But there are many connecting points, and one of those is the work of the Council of the EU and especially its Presidencies. Every 6 months, another EU Member States holds the Presidency which gives this Member State more influence over the EU agenda. It is also an opportunity to bring disability issues on the list of priorities of the EU institutions. Therefore, it is a very good entry point for linking national and EU issues.
In this webinar you will get an introduction to the EU decision-making procedure. We will then focus on the work of the Council of the EU and especially the Council Presidencies. Finally, we will explain how Disabled Persons’ Organisations can better interact with and influence the Presidency and make the most out of it, both on national and EU level.
